I have commented on the Nicki Minaj and Lil Kim beef in a previous post. In my opinion female rappers are so scarce, wait, let me recant that. Successful female rappers are so scarce and their career length so short in comparison to their male counterparts that they should have little to no time available to “beef” with one another.
Queue Nicki Minaj’s newest single and video “Stupid Hoe”. In this song, Minaj not only refers to her rap competitor Lil Kim as a stupid hoe but also as a monkey. Now, I have been known to address the self destructive behaviorisms of my sistas a time or too. No one is above correcting. However, to call them a monkey is even too much for me.
This all begs my original question in my original post- Do female rappers really have the time to beef among one another? No need to ponder too long, I have the answer. Hell no. In fact Nicki Minaj and Lil Kim should be investing in partnering with one another instead of combating.
The life span of a female rapper is drastically less than their male counterpart. Sure, there may be a few female rappers from the 80′s who are invited to speak at engagements occasionally. But none of them have maintained the 20 years plus career length and successes of the male legends of Rap. In fact off a quick thought, I can only think of two female rappers whose career span has managed to last at least 20 years- Queen Latifah and MC Lyte. While I can think of about ten male rappers who not only have became legends in Rap, but have crossed over into acting. As if it isn’t bad enough that female rappers have to reduce themselves to purely sexual objects in order to maintain the attention of audiences, beefing among one another only adds to their foolishness. Don’t you see Ms. Minaj, you are not special? The same formula is played out for female rappers of our time repeatedly. The outcome is usually a subpar aftermath to a career filled with ass shot photos.
So while, Nicki may be currently consumed with ending the career of her competitor Lil Kim and mocking her, she should consider that she too will be in her shoes one day. It is only so long colorful wigs, fat asses, and childish lyrical play will keep the attention of her particular demographic. A demographic that bores easily with female entertainers. No matter how much tits and ass they display. Remember Ms. Minaj, there is a young girl somewhere watching you waiting, salivating at taking your spot. Did I mention that the song sucks?
