I just don’t get it! Didn’t he actually commit an offense?
You can sit here and say I don’t know the real story, but there’s your story, the cops story, his story and somewhere in between there’s the truth! The fact of the matter is…when did we as adults forget to teach our youth about accountability. When did we as a race lose ourselves and instead of standing up for something we continually to fall for everything?
I continually hear, “Free Weezy,” but I say for what? What justice did he serve to make it to be injustice for him to be in jail? In other words, did he do something right that was wrong? We are yelling “Free Weezy” like its equivalent to saying “Free Mandela” or “Free Dr. King.” Definitely not the same thing! What economic, social or political barrier was he helping African Americans resolve? What fence was he picketing to help blacks or people of color to receive better health benefits, jobs, etc.? I don’t understand! If we gone say “Free Weezy,” give us a valid reason as to why we are saying it.
Not because
He’s a celebrity or
The crime wasn’t that great of an offense or
That somebody else has committed felonies way worse, so he should not
Receive the same punishment.
They was just waiting to pin him with something
Mama taught me this when I was young. She said, “You are not everybody! You can’t do the same thing other people do and get away with it!” That’s not how it works. Also if it was known that cops/investigators were keeping a close watch on you, why give them a reason or inkling to continually be on the prowl for you?
No, I’m definitely not in support of keeping a black brother down or locked up, but what I am saying to ALL celebrities who has went to jail over various offenses is to accept the consequences from the actions you have made, whether it be true or false. Learn from them! Everything happens for a reason! Once you have learned from it EDUCATE those individuals who are young, naïve and inexperience about it! Teach them how to actually stand for something, like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Ralph Abernathy, Rosa Parks and so many more who went to jail over sit-ins, boycotts, and movements!
Let’s look back in our history and understand what a cause is and the reasons we stood for it. As a generation, we have forgotten what a PRIVILEGE we have to use the same restroom, eat at the same restaurants and attend the same schools as our white counter parties do. If we are not careful, history can repeat itself. As much as we want to say that racism has died down, it has not! It just wears a different face!

I understand both points and I would say I agree with Latara simply because I'm getting sick and tired of everyone walking around with Free Weezy shirts as if he didn't do anything wrong and when Gucci was in jail Wale was in his video with a Free Gucci shirt ( I think that's who it was...) It's annoying and it isn't teaching our youth anything except if you are a celebrity than you can expect special treatment. Just b/c he's in jail doesn't mean he's not getting special treatment. T.I. is going back to jail and while I admit I'm a fan I don't condone what he did. Even if it was somebody like Beyonce (yeah right, but my fave artist) who did something illegal I would want her to do her time because if it was a person on the street they would be thrown in jail or whatnot.
