I agree with you. If you feminize any topic or style, it would be more accepted. It is almost like the saying “children should be seen and not heard”. What people are seeing is a woman who is a sex symbol, whether it be heterosexual, homosexual or in this case bisexual. What is also important to note is that she equates herself to “barbie”. Barbie represents Amerikkka’s normal perception of what a woman should be. But what people fail to see is that it is a gimic. She uses this American dream doll or role model to put herself out there.

What isn’t being heard is the undertone of who Minaj really is. Minaj has to “sexify”, package her style up sexy, in order to be accepted into the commercial just as she would be accepted in the streets. Her artistic style and choice of diction like her song “go hard” really does go hard. But how would that be accepted if she was wearing the sterotypical butch lesbian attire? It doesn’t matter if you have talent. If it isn’t sexy, it will sell but not as much.

Yea I think hip hop makes the feminine bi sexual female, like the thing to be of the moment, all the guys boast of threesomes and “like girls, who like girls”, honestly in the past 3 yrs i notice alot more lesbianism in clubs and bars, i’m not sure if people are feeling more three or just trying to please men who like it, but it seems to be every where…I say all that to say is that there is still the unspoken rule that if you are not a woman that is sexually appealing to the opposite sex, you are treated different, that’s why other gay female rappers feel uncomfortable admitting their gay. What if Nicki liked women only, and prefers to dress the tom boy look, her label wouldn’t have it, she could never say she was straight gay, and dress how she wants.

The real true is the female voice in rap is marginalize and the current voice is the oversexed moral deprived materalistic voice that doesn’t represent a significant number of women straight gay or bisexual. Bisexual females will find more acceptance in the rap world because they are no percieved “sexual threat” to the masculine ideal. I’m not to familar with Missy Elliot M.C lyre Da Brat or Queen Latifah stating they were gay. In fact I have read or heard interviews where each one has denied being gay. So to use their names as gay member who are forced to be in the closet is irresponsible. For us who know that whenever a woman was a good rapper their sexuality was always qestioned. This is what happened to Latifah and Lyte. Early in their careers they performed in clubs even gay clubs to build fan base men rapper wouldn’t do gay clubs even if they were gay. This is my opinion of how the rumors about Latifah and Lytes sexuality.came from it was assumed they were gay. I hope that the female voice in rap multipies and diversifies so the fans of Nicki Latifah Eve Missy and Lyte are represented no matter what the sexuality ther
y are.
