Italian Vogue recently added a section in their site for all of the Black and thick girls. Vogue Black, Vogue Curvy and Vogue Talents. The section features women of colors and ladies with curves. For the launch, Tyra Banks is featured everywhere since she was in the mag’s 2008 all black issue. The site offers different sections like beauty tips, a blog, new faces and a celebrity look of the day. The first feature displays plus size super model Crystal Renn.
My thoughts about this are: Aren’t we over the separation of Black models from White models. The fashion industry tends to make the Black woman out to be an alien with weird features while the White women are supposed to be the norm and the flawless creature. The definition of femininity. It is 2010 right? Can we move forward? Or should I just simply be happy that they are finally recognizing us at all? What do you think?
