You Might Think I’m Hating….. But clearly this child is starved for media attention and dammit, if Nas and mainstream music will not give it to her, I will. Singer Kelis, also presently known as Nas’s wallet holder needs love. After a failed marriage and being dumped by record label, the singer is resorting to desperate measures for media attention. At first glance one would be fooled into thinking that Kelis is just doing her. Simply living her life and expressing herself the way she chooses to. After all, she has always been “different” with her music, dress and hair. However, as time goes on and her actions become more extreme, I am starting to believe that Kelis is now going out of her way to dress as though she is disturbed. It has become more than just her expressing herself through clothes. Now it seems she has reached a point of desperation where she is striving to appear as unhinged as possible just to get her 30 seconds of fame.

I never thought that Kelis was the most talented person but she could come up with some catchy music. Her mantra “Milkshake” was every woman’s theme song for a summer or so. I cannot forget to mention the song “I Hate You So Much Right Now” also. She also was known for being the hook singer on some popular rap songs. She also was cute. She had the Korean and Black girl thing going which she rocked well with the crazy curls. However lately, with the rise of more talented singers like Beyonce, Alicia Keys, Leona Lewis and others her popularity has since died down and desperation has set in. Now, in order for her to even get a mention on a blog site, outside of the discussion of Nas’s alimony and child support payments, she has to think outside the box. By think, I mean dress like she is slipping from reality. At one point I used to think that Nas was actually lucky by hooking up with her. She was a pretty girl, she seemed to have a focus in her career, and truly seemed to love him. Now, she is turning into a walking, breathing, running joke because it is becoming more and more obvious that her antics are cries for attention and not her artistic expression. Every time there is a new picture of her is is to be expected that it will accompany some type of foolery. Now I’m not saying that she has to be an R and B clone like so many of the other girls, but I am also not suggesting that she needs to be dress and act like a space cadet.

Kelis once possessed her own unique style from her hair to her fashion and it was fly. She did it well. She was one of the first Black girls to embrace the rocker R and B chick and I still say that she should be receiving a check from artists like FeFe Dobson who mimicked her and Rihanna who subsequently jacked FeFe. Now.. I am unsure of what direction this girl is going in. Nas, get your ex-wife….
