I took my 5 yr old grandsughter (who knows that she is a princess) to see it the other day. She was delighted!!! You could see the pride on her face. The Princess and the Frog is an old story. They gave a Black face to the characters. That's all. I've been writing to Disney about a Black Princess since my 23 yr old Daughter was 2 and up until last year for my grandaughter. My question is this : Why do we need Disney to represent us? You know we're not going to like it. They don't know the real us and don't care to! Why in 50 yrs haven't we created our own Black Princess and our own Super Dante? I don't think you're digging deep enough.

It is so funny because for the longest time I wanted to respond to this article and defend Disney's decision to make the first Black Disney Princess a Frog and talk about how it didn't matter and how excited I was, BUT I told myself to wait until I had seen the movie so I wouldn't be debating about something I didn't know....

Well, let me just say that I can honestly say I was truly disappointed. Maybe it's just I'm a 20-year Black woman child who has the heart of a 9 year old girl at times but the intellect of a college student, but sadly I found so much offense in this movie beyond "her being a frog for half the movie, honestly that was a non-issue and didn't bother me. My issues were in the prince--not his race, that was cool,but in his character--LAZY, MOOCHER, PLAYER!!!!(To say the least). In her class...why does disney have to wait until people of color to get "historically accurate"--Pochantas couldn't marry John Smith 'cause that's not "Historically accurate" Tiana (the princess in this movie) couldn't be well off or even a real cajun princess because that's not "Historically accurate"...snow white got to be a princess right out the gate, Ariel, Jasmin...they got to be princesses right out the gate.

Man, there's so much I have to say that I was disappointed in from a psychological and subtle standpoint but I don't want to give away the movie to those interested in seeing it. Honeslty, when I have daughters, if I do...I'd rather them watch Beauty and The Beast than this movie. I just didn't like a lot of the principles. Though, to be fair, I did like her work ethic and the dream angle. Okay, I'm done.

This is why i Love you LJ... you dont sugar coat anything... I think its an insult, whenever i think of frogs i'm grossed out, like most people, and yet this is the character the princess truns into. And yeah now that you brough it to my attention - he sure does look like a pimp....
