Is it just me or is it stupid for people to drop everything they are doing in life to go on one of P. Diddy’s television shows? Starmaker is his newest “life changer”. On this show people will compete for a chance to be a solo artist signed to Bad Boy Records. I swear Diddy must have a life long contract with MTV to come up with a new show every year because every damn year he does! My problem with this is that people leave school, family’s, jobs, their whole lives to participate in one of these shows where Diddy will change their lives and make them a Superstar!
In many cases only 5 individuals win, in this case one and they drop one to two albums that are semi successful and they are never heard from again. It is the curse of Diddy. He has no real interest in assuring that your career will have longevity. At least the other record labels try to fake the funk a little, Diddy straight up plays his artists. Especially the ones who were signed because they were on one of his shows. Let’s go down the list. Making the band. His group Da Band had one album and disbanded. Danity Kane was lucky enough to get two albums out of Diddy and then their career was over. In this case, the girls were not happy with management or each other. His newest all male group Day 26 are still together but I don’t hear their music on the radio and as I recall they at one time were complaining about not getting paid. They are more like a fake ass replacement for 112 who also went to Bad Boy heaven. Then there is Total, B5, New Edition. All in Bad Boy heaven. Remember the other girl group Dream? I know you don’t. What about the lost solo artists like Craig Mack, Shyne, Carl Thomas, G.Dep, Loon, Mario Winans, Black Rob, Christian Daniel, Elephant Man and so on. All gone bye-bye. The ones who still have somewhat of a career were smart enough to get away when they could. Those being artists like Lil Kim, Young Joc and Faith Evans. Cassie is boinking Diddy so she gets a pass. For the life of me I do not understand why someone would sign to him. As if, things will somehow be so different for you than they were for the other 20 artists that he played. Diddy is an opportunist. He sees his artists as opportunities for him to play the shit out of them, make some quick bread off them and keep it moving. He is not going to invest any real time and effort into your career being successful. Why? He just does not care enough about his artists to do that.
I watch these shows and see people giving him their heart, souls, lives, trust. They just put themselves in this mans hands and I want to shout No! Run! He will get you! Don’t! You! Believe! To no avail, they do not listen and before I know it I am seeing a preview for a new show where P. Diddy is going to make you a ahem.. Star.
