I remember when I was younger my Dad would tape the Warner Brothers cartoons for my sister and I (you remember VHS don’t you?). We would watch hours of cartoons and laugh at all the vivid colors and antics of Bugs Bunny and all the other Looney Toones. Bugs always seemed to be a lead character and was undoubtedly one of the smarter characters. I watch this supposed legendary cartoon now and come to realize all of the racist messages that were present. Sometimes they were settle and other times it was in your face racism. It is almost hard to believe now with everything being so socially conscious or at least in public, that these cartoons were green lighted. Then again, that was a different period in time and these images were socially acceptable. My question is would you allow your children to see these intolerant images today? On one perspective perhaps you should so that they can see how African Americans were viewed and how far along we have came. On another perspective one could question have we really came that far? Sure, the racism may not be as outlandish as it once was but it still is present. Kids should be aware of where we once were. All I know is that watching it now is jaw dropping. The boldness of the in your face “yeah you’se a nigga” undertones that are present in this cartoon are almost unbelievable. Notice I said almost. Even the title screams “niggas!”, “jungle bunnies!” and “chicken!”. I will let you be the judge. I present to you one of the ultimate megacorps, Warner Brothers own, “Jungle Jitters”. Yes Jungle Jitters people. Have you caught them?
Last but definitely not least, WB also pokes fun at…. Slavery! Yes, what a hilarious way to introduce the topic to the children! Thanks Warner Bros!

I admit the episodes you have embedded are racist but not every warner brothers cartoon was racist. I usually saw Bugs Bunny using his wit and charm to evade Elmer Fudd and Yosemite Sam. I never saw Daffy as a black caricature. I just saw him as an arrogant Duck who evaded hunters and occasionally tormenting Porky Pig.
