I previously posted a story at Brownsista about Kelis and how she is asking for an outrageous amount of money from Nas for child support. What bothered me was the fact that she made it seem as if she would not be able to financially support herself and the expected child if Nas did not take care of her. Although I do feel that he should financially contribute to the child’s well being, Kelis deemed herself helpless financially without him. Scary thought to be grown and that dependent on someone else. Now, Nas is firing back and claiming that he does not make as much as Kelis thinks he does and he cannot afford such a high request from her.
TMZ reports the following:
Nas claims he paid kelis more than she says and he makes less than she thinks.Accoridng to TMZ,Kelis claims Nas raked in $11 million for his album deal. Nas fired back in legal papers, “I did not receive even half that amount”… claiming it’s more like $4 mil. Nas claims his income is declining, and he’s only pulling in $147,165 a month. As for what he spends $71,371.96 a month, which includes $10,000 a month in clothing/hair/toiletries/personal effects.
I am thinking that this could possibly be true. I have heard in the past that Nas was having finanical problems and was not balling like his rap counterpart Jay-Z. Whether that was due to a bogus record deal or purely bad money management only Nas knows.
I have never been one to agree with someone staying in a relationship for financial reasoning but in this case, I have to wonder. Is it cheaper for the both of them to try to work it out? That might be a more fiscally responsible decision for them both and their child. I am curious as to what happen between these two to make them split and also why has the split become so nasty? At one point they were my favorite Hip-Hop couple even before Jay and Beyonce. They always seemed to be so proud to be with each other and seemed close as if they were best freinds. (Shrugs) Who knows.

I agree Carlos!
